What to do?

I need some advice.

The job that I have is a Manager position where I am over 60+ call center agents, and 5 supervisors. I love my job. However lately it is weighing heavily on me.

I'm the one people go to when they need to vent. I'm the one people go to when things aren't going right. And I'm the one they expect to have all the answers to and fix it.

But I don't have all the answers, and I don't always know how to fix things.

I constantly feel that negitive energy of people complaining ALL the time. I take it home with me, and I shouldn't.

When people are negative I do all that I can to not give into it and help them see the positive side of it. I have even told people to grow up, be an adult and deal with the situation as an adult (but in a much nicer way - although I do just want to let it out and not beat around the bush anymore, but I fear I'd get in trouble).

Those who have issue with others I have told to stop coming to me to complain, but rather talk to the person and work it out.

Oh, the drama! It's exhausting me!

Even this morning one of my pregnant friends came up and told me how aweful their mother-in-law is, etc, etc. Seriously! I just finished working out, I feel great, don't bring me down!

How do I tell people this? I don't know how because that's part of my job; to help people and resolve conflicts. But, seriously...does it have to happen ALL THE TIME!!?!?!

Well...I'll put my two cents in. You need to get your photography business stable so you can go full time at it. :) So you get to control who you work with and when you do it. Or you can be very candid and tell people just to get over themselves and be happy dang it. Gossip and drama sucks. I am thankful I don't have to deal with that...too much. Good luck with the drama! OOO...OOO...or you can make a sign that says counseling hours are from 12:00 to 1:00 and have a fee box. Then you'll only have to deal with it for an hour and make a little on the side. I'm sorry I wish I could be serious! HA

Deb you crack me up! Ok seriously I'm going to do that counseling session fee. I love it! But oh how I want to just make photography full time. Someday. :)

I think in a weird way I can relate to this. I'm constantly getting grief from people at my work who bring me down all the time. I hate always having to be the bad guy.

I think the first thing I do to get me out of a horrible mood is doing something for me each day. Even if it is something really small like 15 minutes before bed to read, or to scream my lungs out while dancing to my favorite song, maybe that day I want a lime ricki... so I do it. I always feel a little bit better.

As far as telling people how you feel, I think the best way is to just do it. I think people need to hear when they are being a downer. And yes, you want to be everyones friend (and you are really good at this btw). Let them know you are under a lot of stress and have been in a negative mood. So if they want to talk about something positive you are all for it but to keep the negative drama to themselves.

I hope that helps. Good luck Shannon! If anyone can do this... you can. You have every right to have bad days.

I've been a stay at home mom wayyy tooo long to even go there. My go-to is, "suck it up, and carry on". I'm no help here, soory eh? Keep working out, and find people who are crazy happy. You know, the marathon/triathlon/century riding peeps who bleed positive energy.

That is so hard. I know exactly what you mean..for I have people come complain to me at the workplace too all day. Sometimes I am the one complaining, but it seems like I am around negativity all day. The only thing I've promised myself is that I will NEVER bring anything home, and the second I find myself thinking about work while I am at home, I quickly change the subject. It's exhausting enough, and to bring it home with you makes it even moreso. My advice...leave it all at work, and try hard to focus at home on home!
